what's your experience of Renault Meganes?
2k for a 56 plate convertible seems rather cheap

Advice please you lovely people

The 1.6 is a bit underpowerd the 2.0 only does 26 mpg and the diesel seems ok but is about 500 quid more

Pre 2006 they were usually rust buckets. Best avoided unless you find a rare solid one and have it properly checked over.

My old man has the Focus CC3. it's actually a really nice car to drive and some were really kitted out with nice leather, heated seats etc.

It's a focus so it's reliable and not hugely flash but nice with the roof down, they had a leaking roof issue at first production but quickly sorted it.

got a megane v reg 1.4 petrol 180,000 miles and still going no real big problems did help that some old boy had it before and did a full service every year despite only doing 4000 miles per year.

What rios said. The Saab is a decent looking car in convertible form too.

Reliable and decent 4 seater convertibles for around £3k are not exactly common, but if that's what you've decided you want then the Saab is just about your only choice.

Or you could get the Megane and walk everywhere, I'm sure your new lady won't mind.

Trouble with French cars is, as soon as they meet with a German car, the white flag comes out

Re: what's your experience of Renault Meganes?
My thinking is if I get an 07 plate then all the electrical bits would have been fixed by now

Can't get anything to sensible as the new lady is only 28 so that rules out Volvo and poss Saab

Renault's and Citroens are the only spares RAC drivers keep in their vans at all times.

Re: what's your experience of Renault Meganes?
Had an 07 one from new and plagued with electrical faults.

Electric windows have a known fault and Renault extended the warranty out to 7 years. Also the radios do not work in cold weather during the winter as they have an anti-freeze mechanism to stop you breaking the code. The airbags also suffer from electrical faults on the sensor/switch in the seats.

Daughter has a Renault Clio - don't like it - particularly the quirky steering .. ECU went after only 6 months.

For that I'd never buy a Renault.

If that's any help

Saab 9-3 then. As long as it has decent service history you'll be looking at a 2003 to 2005 model with sensible mileage (c.80k)

With a paltry 90 brake horse power, hills in 5th gear can be power sappingly mundane and overtaking articulated lorries can become a long drawn out experience.

I think that was my missus Sven. She is a megane driver and her claim to fame is nearly running someone over on a zebra crossing.

Re: what's your experience of Renault Meganes?
I had one from new in 04. Really liked it. Good ride and plenty of torque (2l diesel). But there's a lot of,potential for probs with the electrics. Worst I had was the windows all winding down on their own a couple of times overnight!

Re: what's your experience of Renault Meganes?
The Megane isn't a brilliant car, electrical problems mainly.

But to say that an old car can't be reliable is bullshit.

I run a Volvo V70 that I gave £600 for nearly two years ago. Have put 50k miles on it near enough, and other than consumables, it's cost £107 for a new lambda sensor to get it through it's MOT.

Choose carefully and you can motor for next to free.
